Britain extends Avanti West Coast rail franchise to October 2024

The UK government has extended the Avanti West Coast rail franchise until October 2024, citing the company's successful management of the franchise since it took over in December 2019. The extension comes after the Department for Transport announced it would take over control of the East Coast Main Line from the current operator, LNER, in 2023. The Avanti West Coast franchise serves routes between London, the West Midlands, North West England, North Wales and Scotland.
